This Privacy Policy explains how Compressly ("Compressly", "we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use the Compressly mobile application (the "App"), a tool that compresses videos and photos. By using the App, you agree to this Policy.
Key point: Compressly compresses your videos and photos entirely on your device. We do not upload, copy, or transmit your photos, videos, or their contents to our servers or any third party.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Media you choose to compress
When you select a photo or video to compress, the App reads that file locally on your device to perform the compression. These files and their contents are processed on-device and are never sent to us. The compressed output is saved back to your device.
1.2 Information we do not collect
We do not require you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, precise location, or the contents of your media.
1.3 Information collected automatically
Device identifier. To operate features such as your free-usage allowance and to verify your subscription, we generate and/or read a stable device identifier. On Android this is derived from the Android SSAID (Settings.Secure.ANDROID_ID); on iOS it is a random identifier stored in the device Keychain. This is not linked to your real-world identity.
Usage counters. We record the number of compressions you complete (associated with your device identifier and a randomly generated job ID) to enforce the free-tier allowance. We do not record which files you compressed.
Subscription / purchase status. Whether you hold an active Premium subscription, and the associated Google Play purchase token and product ID, used to grant and verify entitlements.
Technical/diagnostic data. Basic device and app information (e.g., OS version, app version) may be used for compatibility and troubleshooting.
1.4 Information from third parties
Google Play Billing provides us with purchase tokens and subscription state so we can verify and activate Premium.
Google AdMob (for users on the free tier) collects information as described in its own policies to serve and measure ads, including advertising identifiers.
2. Device Permissions
Photos / Media / Files: to let you pick media to compress and to save compressed results. Access stays on-device.
Notifications: to inform you about the progress or completion of a compression task.
Internet / Network: to verify subscriptions, manage your free-usage allowance, load ads (free tier), and check for updates.
You can manage or revoke permissions at any time in your device settings; some features may not work without them.
3. How We Use Information
To provide the core compression functionality (on-device).
To enforce the free-tier compression allowance and grant bonus compressions earned by watching a rewarded ad.
To verify, activate, restore, and manage Premium subscriptions.
To display advertising to free-tier users.
To maintain security, prevent abuse or fraud, and troubleshoot problems.
To comply with legal obligations.
4. Advertising
Free-tier users are shown ads through Google AdMob. AdMob and its partners may use device and advertising identifiers to serve personalized or non-personalized ads and to measure ad performance. Please review Google's policies:
You can opt out of ads personalization via your device's advertising settings. Purchasing Premium removes ads.
5. Third-Party Services
The App relies on the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:
Google Play Billing — payments and subscription management.
Google AdMob — advertising (free tier).
Our own backend server — stores only the minimal data described in Section 1.3 (device identifier, usage counters, subscription state).
6. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only:
with service providers (e.g., Google) as needed to provide payments and ads;
to comply with law, legal process, or lawful government requests;
to protect the rights, safety, and property of Compressly and its users.
7. Data Retention
We keep the minimal server-side data (device identifier, usage counters, subscription records) for as long as needed to provide the service, enforce allowances, and meet legal or accounting requirements. Your media is never stored by us. You may request deletion as described below.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures (including encrypted transport / HTTPS and access controls) to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
9. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing.
Deletion: Because we do not hold accounts, uninstalling the App and, on Android, clearing app data removes your local identifier. To request deletion of server-side records associated with your device identifier, contact us at the email below.
EEA/UK (GDPR): Our legal bases are performance of our terms with you, our legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, service operation), and consent (where required, e.g., personalized ads). You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
California (CCPA/CPRA): We do not sell or "share" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising in exchange for money. You may request access or deletion.
11. International Data Transfers
Your information may be processed on servers located outside your country. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, an in-app notice. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
